In the 1940s and 1950s, farmers and nomads from Anatolia handwoven these minimalist hemp bags for their own use.
The original hemp kilims, which are very rare today, were intended as a grain sack, storage sack or suitcase. Hemp was chosen for this purpose because hemp repels moths and other insects.
